Today marks four months since I underwent surgery to repair a dislocated ankle, broken in three places with torn ligaments. These past four months have been a challenging journey. I spent 10 weeks bedridden, couldn't navigate stairs for over two months, and even relied on a shower chair. Driving was out of the question for 3 1/2 months, and I had to relearn how to walk. Despite progress, I'm still not fully healed and have encountered setbacks along the way.
During these past few months, I've had the opportunity to reflect, and here's what I've learned:
- Resilience is key. Setbacks are inevitable, but finding inner strength to persevere each day is essential. Never lose sight of that resilience.
- Don't hesitate to ask for help. Whether it's from family, friends, or colleagues, reaching out is crucial. Remember, you're not alone in this journey.
- Life can change in an instant. My accident, dog walking, altered my immediate and long-term future profoundly. I am grateful I will recovery.
- Find your zen. So many people asked how I survived & wasn’t I bored. Honestly, for the first time in my life, I was forced to relax. Sit still. Be calm. Take a moment to pause and breathe.
- Maintain a positive outlook. There were many dark days, but choosing being positive helped me fight for a better day tomorrow.
I'm immensely grateful for the unwavering support of my family, friends, and colleagues. Their encouragement never allowed me to give up. In life, we all face dark times, but it's the strength of our community that guides us back into the light.
