The spring is always super busy with work. After traveling for two weeks for work in May, my 17-year-old son said, ‘Mom, can we go on a road trip together? I want to go somewhere with you alone.” Of course, I jumped at the chance. But it gave me time to reflect on some of the essential things in life.
When your child wants to spend time, you make time. Nothing is more important. Kids are children for such a short period. Life goes fast.
You have a vacation for a reason. Use it. Use it for family, friends, and yourself.
Be present. It is hard to shut off electronic devices, but you must be present. Enjoy the moment.
Be flexible. Anyone who knows me knows I am a planner. I make reservations and plan everything. While that is great, especially in the busy summer, flexibility is also essential. Be spontaneous, follow the flow, and listen to your child wants.
While a high-end vacation is incredible, doing something low-key can also be an experience. Going to a local farmers market, cooking together, and watching a movie, can be one of your favorite memories. And yes, I am still planning my next fun international family adventure.
I hope you have a wonderful summer. Enjoy time off. Enjoy your family & friends.
