Why I Said Yes to Pride Run ATL

When I was first asked to be the publicist for Pride Run ATL, I laughed and said, “Me? I’m not a publicist.” The president of the run looked at me and said, “How are you not a publicist?” He was right. I’ve spent more than 20 years in communications, PR, and marketing. I still remember walking into a New York City broadcast studio in my mid-20s to prep a top IBM executive for a finance segment. It was a crash course in messaging, pressure, and presence, and I’ve carried that experience ever since. Yes, I can help with Pride Run ATL. But this isn’t about my resume. It’s about using my voice to help others, especially those being silenced. Even if you’re not in Atlanta, you can help. This moment we’re in is urgent. We’re seeing voices silenced, identities erased, and communities defunded. Consider just a few examples: • Protections for LGBTQIA+ people are being rolled back • Suicide prevention hotlines are losing funding • Teachers are being penalized for affirming LGBTQ+ youth • Queer military members are facing renewed discrimination • Clinics are closing services for LGBTQIA+ patients.

This is why Pride Run ATL matters.

“We Move Atlanta” is more than a slogan. It’s a statement of presence, pride, and perseverance.

Like many LGBTQIA+ organizations, Pride Run ATL has faced shrinking sponsorships. But we’re still here. Still running. Still giving back.

🌈 Race proceeds go directly to frontline services: HIV prevention. Recovery support. Emergency housing.

If you can’t be with us in person, consider supporting these incredible organizations: AID Atlanta, Bridge of Light, Inclusive Recovery, and Lost-N-Found Youth. These groups focus on public health, safety, and survival for LGBTQIA+ individuals. This is why we run (and walk). To fund care. To create safe spaces. To stand up when others stand down. So, if you’re in Atlanta, come and join me on Sunday, June 1st, at 8:00 am at Piedmont Park!
