Renovations are much like implementing software...

As many of you know, I have been in high technology for over 25 years. After spending the past few months renovating my house, I realized that renovations are similar to software implementations.

1. Vision: Without a clear idea of what you want, you will never know when you are done and have been successful.

2. Planning: You must plan and have a timeline. Like software implementations, renovations often face setbacks and delays due to unforeseen issues. Leaving some extra time in the plan for challenges helps avoid stress and an unfavorable outcome.

3. Budget: Always plan for additional costs and add-ons. Even with the best planning, budgets can change.

4. Collaboration: Align yourself with the best team around you. Rarely can you complete a project alone.

5. Support: You do not know everything. Ask for advice and recommendations.

6. Believe in Yourself: Success starts with knowing yourself and what you can achieve. Believe in your goals and your ability to accomplish them.

7. Celebrate your successes: Hardwork does pay off.
