“No” is a complete sentence

One of the hardest things for me is saying “no.” As an empath and people-pleaser, it takes effort to prioritize myself and set boundaries. I naturally respond quickly and focus on others, but I’m putting myself first this year.

Some situations cause stress and discomfort, and I need to focus on my new direction—without feeling the need to apologize. Still, I often catch myself doing so. I think of my Aunt Lenore, who was unapologetically direct, especially in her later years. While I once found her bluntness harsh, I now relate to her more than ever. (Though I still believe kindness in tone matters.)

But you know what? “No” is a complete sentence. And I plan to use it.
